We’ve all heard the term diamond in the rough. \u00a0Is it overused? \u00a0Perhaps but I feel it is appropriate in this case. \u00a0West Covina is hardly anyone’s powerhouse in Southern California football. \u00a0Over the last five seasons, \u00a0they have managed just two above .500 and last year they were a mere 1-9. \u00a0However, \u00a0as is this case all across the nation, \u00a0not so hot programs will have undiscovered talent. \u00a0Victor Flores may be one of those talents.<\/p>\n

The 6’4′ Flores passes the all important eyeball test when it comes to height. \u00a0Ask any college football coach and he’ll tell you that you can’t teach height. \u00a0Flores may be a bit on the thin size but I’ll chalk that up to a fast growing adolescent body that has not yet been through the rigors of a strenuous weightlifting program. \u00a0Flores also did not put up good numbers last season at all as you would expect with a team that managed just one win in a highly competitive area in the country for high school football. \u00a0What Flores lacks in both weight and numbers, \u00a0he makes up for in skill.<\/p>\n

What I like the most about Flores’ video is that he shows every facet of his game early on in his highlight video. \u00a0Within the first two minutes you will see Flores in the shotgun and under center. \u00a0You will see him throw from the pocket and roll out. \u00a0You will also see Flores execute RPO’s as well as your typical zone reads. \u00a0You will even see Flores scramble and execute designed QB runs. \u00a0There’s something there for almost every coach running any system. \u00a0This is a fancy way of me saying that Flores has a wide range of skills. \u00a0He stands tall in the pocket and is adept at rolling out both to his right as well as his left.<\/p>\n

Southern California is crawling with prep football talent so it can be quite easy to get lost if you are not at a premier program like Mater Dei or St. John Bosco. \u00a0However, \u00a0if you’re into combing the land for underrated talent, \u00a0Flores is worth a look. \u00a0It does require you to look beyond his\u00a0circumstances though and focus on his skill set. \u00a0Coaches from Division I to Division II should be taking an interest in the rising senior signal caller with an eye on offering him a scholarship.<\/p>\n
