{"id":3616,"date":"2018-08-14T12:09:48","date_gmt":"2018-08-14T17:09:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gridironstuds.com\/blog\/?p=3616"},"modified":"2018-08-14T12:09:48","modified_gmt":"2018-08-14T17:09:48","slug":"your-half-an-effort-will-not-get-you-a-full-scholarship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gridironstuds.com\/blog\/your-half-an-effort-will-not-get-you-a-full-scholarship\/","title":{"rendered":"Your Half An Effort Will Not Get You A Full Scholarship"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bigredhawks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/IMG_2786-648x357.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"130\" \/><strong>By: Chad Wilson &#8211; Editor &#8211; GridironStuds Blog<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Twitter: @GridironStuds<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I will see it from time to time and be amazed by it.\u00a0 Across this country,\u00a0 student athletes are suiting up to play football and with it arm themselves with some entitlements.\u00a0 Allow me to pat you down and take some of those offensive weapons off of you as they will likely harm someone,\u00a0 mainly yourself.<\/p>\n<p>The entitlements come in many forms.\u00a0 I can count on many hands and many feet the amount of times I have received a DM or email from a high school football player who tells me they want to go D-1.\u00a0 Ok,\u00a0 well that&#8217;s fine,\u00a0 you should aim high but what have you done to earn a D1 scholarship?\u00a0 If your effort on the practice field and in the classroom is not to the utmost of your abilities then I am not sure what you think is supposed to happen here.\u00a0 Despite what some athletes may think,\u00a0 just because you play high school football does not mean you are entitled to a scholarship.<\/p>\n<p>If you did not attend workouts,\u00a0 go to camps, get in extra lifts, running or technique sessions or study film,\u00a0 go through a playbook or otherwise immerse yourself in the improvement of your game,\u00a0 I am not quite sure how you think you will catch the eye of recruiters.\u00a0 Perhaps you have looked at a lazy athlete on your team or a school nearby who has received scholarship offers and you think you can do the same.\u00a0 Well,\u00a0 that guy might be 6&#8217;4&#8243; or is otherwise blessed athletically.\u00a0 He will get more looks than you but at some point he&#8217;ll have to work at it or see his career end.\u00a0 Whether you are blessed like that or not,\u00a0 being lazy about your college scholarship pursuit will not energize a college coach about you as a prospect.<\/p>\n<p>Division I college football is for the elite players in the country.\u00a0 This football season roughly 1,000,000 high school students will play football.\u00a0 There are not 1,000,000 football scholarships available annually.\u00a0 In fact,\u00a0 here is the math<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1,000,000 high school football players each year<\/li>\n<li>Roughly 40% of them will be seniors so 400,000<\/li>\n<li>129 FBS football schools<\/li>\n<li>125 FCS football schools<\/li>\n<li>Roughly 25 scholarships available per FBS &amp; FCS school each year<\/li>\n<li>Total of 6,350 Division I scholarships available each year (FBS + FCS)<\/li>\n<li>1.5% of high school football seniors will sign a Division I scholarship (6,350 divided by 400,000)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You didn&#8217;t have to kill it on the Pre-SAT to realize that those numbers aren&#8217;t good for you.\u00a0 So the question is,\u00a0 what are you going to do to get into that 1.5%?\u00a0 I can assure you that this formula:\u00a0 SnapChat + Instagram + Fortnite x Chill = Zero.\u00a0 \u00a0Go ahead,\u00a0 get your calculator and out see what you get.\u00a0 The time to get up off of the numb ass you&#8217;ve been sitting on is now.\u00a0 Imagine yourself going to a Rivals camp and 400,000 people are there and coaches from 254 colleges are in attendance.\u00a0 What would you do?\u00a0 I&#8217;m pretty sure your answer would not be to whip out a controller or take a selfie and apply your favorite filter.\u00a0 Every day you are essentially auditioning for one of those 254 schools.\u00a0 The problem is close to 1\/2 of a million others are to.\u00a0 So just like you have to do on Friday Night,\u00a0 you will have to compete.
