{"id":4197,"date":"2021-01-19T15:30:34","date_gmt":"2021-01-19T20:30:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gridironstuds.com\/blog\/?p=4197"},"modified":"2021-01-19T15:30:34","modified_gmt":"2021-01-19T20:30:34","slug":"recruiting-law-the-withdrawal-cant-exceed-the-deposit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gridironstuds.com\/blog\/recruiting-law-the-withdrawal-cant-exceed-the-deposit\/","title":{"rendered":"Recruiting Law: The Withdrawal Can&#8217;t Exceed the Deposit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Chad Wilson &#8211; GridironStuds Blog<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Twitter: <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GridironStuds?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">@gridironstuds<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>One of the biggest problems I run into trying to help young athletes in the recruiting process is the detachment from reality that exists for prospects.\u00a0 The problem is small on my end but for the recruit it is enormous.\u00a0 Many high school football players want to withdraw $1,000,000 from an account that they only deposited $100 in.<\/p>\n<p>Too often I run into prospects and at times,\u00a0 parents,\u00a0 who would like to get offers from big time Division I schools when they have put in NAIA effort.\u00a0 I&#8217;m even hesitant to say NAIA because that&#8217;s a slight on them because those football players must work hard too.\u00a0 I can not tell you how many times,\u00a0 I have been asked to see what I can do for a high school player only to look and find out that they don&#8217;t have a highlight video that isn&#8217;t done yet.\u00a0 Furthermore,\u00a0 they have not dedicated themselves to the weight room or their academics.\u00a0 I&#8217;m literally left to think &#8220;what the hell do they think this is out here?&#8221;\u00a0 I truly believe that some high school football players think that because they start for their high school football team they are entitled to a scholarship from some college somewhere.<\/p>\n<p>Before I go in-depth,\u00a0 let me see if I can sneak some simple math across to those would be,\u00a0 wanna be college football players:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Number of high school football players every year (estimated): 1,000,000<\/li>\n<li>Number of FBS, FCS &amp; Division 2 schools combined: 426<\/li>\n<li>Number of players on scholarships at FBS, FCS &amp; D2 schools (estimated):\u00a0 25,000<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Now you could be in Algebra I for the 4th straight year and still figure out that these numbers mean that a lot of guys will get left out in the cold when it comes to getting a scholarship.\u00a0 (note:\u00a0 I left out Division III schools because they don&#8217;t award scholarships though they can give aid).<\/p>\n<p>Now many of you have slept outside of a Best Buy trying to get a Ps5 or refreshed a webpage 20,000 times trying to get a new pair of Jordan&#8217;s.\u00a0 Because of this,\u00a0 I know you get the concept of competition.\u00a0 Everybody wants that Ps5 or pair of Jordan&#8217;s so you are willing to do something drastic to &#8220;cop one of those&#8221;.\u00a0 You simply can not forget that concept when it comes time to securing a college football scholarship. When you are 150 lbs. talking about getting an offer from Michigan,\u00a0 I want you to think walking into Game Stop four days after the new play station comes out and expecting to just pick one up.\u00a0 You might be able to but I doubt it.<\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t think that because you went to practice every day and stayed awake in meetings that this means you should have a seat at the table come December or February your senior year.\u00a0 That will work if you are a genetic freak and it&#8217;s similar to working at GameStop so you have an inside track to getting that new game console.\u00a0 You will have to stay after practice and get in some extra work on your skills.\u00a0 You will have to watch hours and hours of extra film to up your football IQ.<\/p>\n<p>Some &#8220;prospects&#8221; that I come across think they can skip weight room sessions,\u00a0 go on vacations during the summer workouts and by pass the recruiting camps in the offseason.\u00a0 That&#8217;s fine if you have been dunking a basketball since the 7th grade or haven&#8217;t been able to fit in the back seat of the family car since you entered puberty.\u00a0 This would be similar to actually having the last name Jordan and your father&#8217;s name is Michael if you wanted to get the latest pair of shoes the company named after him has put out.<\/p>\n<p>If you are a senior and you know you didn&#8217;t do the extra running and weight lifting;\u00a0 if you know you didn&#8217;t go to the camps and work on your athleticism in the offseason;\u00a0 if you remember how your forgot to watch film quite often and didn&#8217;t care much for learning the game while you were playing it,\u00a0 have the same expectations you&#8217;d have if you walked into the store after everyone else wanting something that everybody has to have.\u00a0 If you have recently found that spirit of dedication to the sport,\u00a0 realize that you will take a winding path to where you want to go.\u00a0 You are either going to walk on,\u00a0 go to a junior college or some kind of prep school.\u00a0 If you are an underclassman reading this then chances are I&#8217;m not really talking to you.\u00a0 Just taking the time to read this and get this far in the article without moving on means that you get what I am saying.\u00a0 Now,\u00a0 get started doing something about it because as we speak,\u00a0 about 100,000 guys like you already have.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Chad Wilson &#8211; GridironStuds Blog Twitter: @gridironstuds One of the biggest problems I run into trying to help<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":44,"featured_media":4198,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[767,995],"tags":[1093,1088,112,1016,820,821,1091,1089,212,1090,1092],"class_list":["post-4197","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-recruiting-school","category-recruiting-tips","tag-academics","tag-college-football-prospects","tag-college-football-recruiting","tag-division-2","tag-fbs","tag-fcs","tag-film-study","tag-football-scholarships","tag-high-school-football","tag-offseason","tag-weight-lifting"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/gridironstuds.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/4197","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/gridironstuds.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/gridironstuds.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/gridironstuds.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/44"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/gridironstuds.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=4197"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/gridironstuds.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/4197\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/gridironstuds.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/4198"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/gridironstuds.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=4197"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/gridironstuds.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=4197"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/gridironstuds.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=4197"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
