{"id":742,"date":"2009-07-02T13:26:53","date_gmt":"2009-07-02T18:26:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gridironstuds.com\/blog\/?p=742"},"modified":"2009-07-02T13:26:53","modified_gmt":"2009-07-02T18:26:53","slug":"orlando-sentinnel-votes-01-miami-hurricanes-team-of-the-decade","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gridironstuds.com\/blog\/orlando-sentinnel-votes-01-miami-hurricanes-team-of-the-decade\/","title":{"rendered":"Orlando Sentinnel Votes &#8217;01 Miami Hurricanes Team of the Decade"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" title=\"Miami Hurricanes 2001 National Champs\" src=\"http:\/\/tbn3.google.com\/images?q=tbn:3ZbvhtmH6SoDvM:http:\/\/media2.tbo.com\/mediamanager\/2008\/dec\/27\/2491_1227canes.orig-max-640x640.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"131\" height=\"92\" \/>The Orlando Sentinel had an extended countdown of the top teams of 2000&#8217;s and after much information and debate,\u00a0 they have voted the Miami Hurricanes the Top Team of the Decade.<\/p>\n<p>Few can argue with this assertion.\u00a0 A case can be made for the 2004 USC Trojans or the 2005 Longhorns but when you really shake it all out,\u00a0 the 2001 Miami Hurricane team is not only the best team of the decade,\u00a0 it&#8217;s perhaps the best team of all time.<\/p>\n<p>The &#8217;01 Hurricanes ran through their schedule like a wayward elderly driven Lincoln Continental through a store front.\u00a0 They blitzkrieged the competition and before a team even unpacked their materials they were staring at a double digit deficit with little hope of closing the gap.\u00a0 The Washington Huskies were perhaps the most unfortunate of their 2001 opponents as the alumni riled up the team about Washington&#8217;s claims of being the real champions of 1991.\u00a0\u00a0 A decade later,\u00a0 it was obvious which program was on top as Miami rolled over them 65-7.\u00a0\u00a0 Some will point to the pair of close calls against Boston College and Virginia Tech but the bottom line is that Miami won those games and often times,\u00a0 team will fall in those instances.<\/p>\n<p>In the final game,\u00a0 the Rose Bowl,\u00a0 for all the marbles,\u00a0 Miami knocked Nebraska and quarterback Eric Crouch senseless, producing a final score of 37-14.\u00a0 Those watching know that it could have been worse as Miami had a 34-0 half time lead.\u00a0 In the end,\u00a0 the 2001 roster produced 38 NFL draft picks,\u00a0 of which,\u00a0 17 were first rounders.\u00a0 Fourteen of those 38 players are starters on NFL teams and as the Orlando Sentinel pointed out,\u00a0 at least one has a date with Canton (Ed Reed).<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>The rest of the list went like this:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Two:<\/strong> 2005 Texas Longhorns<br \/>\n<strong>Three:<\/strong> 2004 USC Trojans<br \/>\n<strong>Four:<\/strong> 2002 Ohio St. Buckeyes<br \/>\n<strong>Five: <\/strong>2000 Oklahoma Sooners<br \/>\n<strong>Six:<\/strong> 2008 Florida Gators<br \/>\n<strong>Seven:<\/strong> 2006 Florida Gators<br \/>\n<strong>Eight:<\/strong> 2003 LSU Tigers<br \/>\n<strong>Nine:<\/strong> 2007 LSU Tigers<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Orlando Sentinel had an extended countdown of the top teams of 2000&#8217;s and after much information and<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":44,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[213,216,215,214],"class_list":["post-742","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-general","tag-2001-miami-hurricanes","tag-miami-hurricanes","tag-top-college-football-teams-of-all-time","tag-top-college-teams-of-the-decade"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/gridironstuds.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/742","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/gridironstuds.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/gridironstuds.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/gridironstuds.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/44"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/gridironstuds.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=742"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/gridironstuds.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/742\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/gridironstuds.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=742"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/gridironstuds.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=742"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/gridironstuds.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=742"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
